Child Trends examined three potential drivers of the decline in child poverty—economic factors, demographic shifts, and social safety net programs—to determine the likely causes of this drop. The study’s release comes as state and federal officials wrestle to safeguard children from the economic aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and create opportunities for longer-term economic mobility.
