In the space of a year, we’ve experienced a global pandemic, the beginnings of a long-overdue reckoning with racism, and extraordinary political acrimony. The way we live our lives, raise our families, and do our work has been fundamentally altered. Some of these changes may be fleeting. But others could potentially redirect the trajectory of American education for generations to come.

The education field has an opportunity to bend the arc and chart a new course that avoids repeating the mistakes—and reproducing the inequities—of the past. But, first, we must ask ourselves: What are the most urgent needs? Where can we find the best opportunities to affect meaningful change?

In this special briefing, Education Week unveils a new national study that posed these questions to a diverse set of stakeholders. We also welcome our guest, Grantmakers for Education, to explore how these views from the field compare with the visions of the philanthropy world.
