At our 2016 fall conference, the breakout session True Costs of Excellence: Getting to Better Outcomes highlighted the shift occurring nationally among leading foundations to address the overhead myth and acknowledge the true or full costs required to deliver on the mission of nonprofits.  As a follow-up to that session, we invite you to join us for our next Smart Grantmaking Practices workshop where we will dig deeper into how this full coast approach translates into real numbers in nonprofit financial statements.

Led by Alice Antonelli, Director, Nonprofit Finance Fund, this session will demystify nonprofit financial statements and provide a practical framework for assessing the health and sustainability of a nonprofit's underlying business model and capital structure.

During this session we will:

  • Review the basics of nonprofit financial statements
  • Learn the basic architecture of financial statements & how different statements connect
  • Acquire tips for using financial data to prompt further questions and due diligence
  • Learn the importance of determining an organization's full cost
  • Understand how to assess the reasonableness of full cost requests
  • Put these concepts into practice through interactive exercises using real case examples

Breakfast will be provided.
