Join Stoneleigh Foundation and the Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project for a conversation about building youth-led movements through art, organizing, and creating non-carceral responses to harm and violence.

The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project (YASP) is a youth-led, largely youth-staffed organization with a focus on building youth leadership in the movement to end mass incarceration. Over the last two decades, YASP has provided year-round creative arts workshops for youth under 18 in Philadelphia’s adult jails as well as ongoing support and leadership development for youth who have come home. During that time, YASP has hired many young people who were previously incarcerated to assume leadership roles as primary decision-makers in the organization, launched the country's first Youth Participatory Defense Hub, and piloted Philadelphia's first pre-charge restorative justice diversion program.

This event is part of Stoneleigh's Youth Partnership Spotlight Series highlighting the critical work that Philadelphia’s young leaders do every day.
