The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia announced a $5 million contribution from Aileen and Brian Roberts, and their family, to give laptops to Philadelphia students so they can begin learning from home by mid-April.
Funding from the Sixers will help get computers to students at home to allow distance learning during ongoing school closures due to COVID-19.
Administered by The Fund for School District of Philadelphia, the program's goals of promoting literacy and preventing the phenomenon known as “summer slide” have been expanded to include countering the "COVID slide," this year's loss of school instruction time to the pandemic.
