Officials of the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation presented a $100,000 planning grant Tuesday to Universal Cos. for its neighborhood transformation plans for Point Breeze and Grays Ferry.

Universal officials said the money would be used to help complete the plan that would encompass housing and economic and community development.

Kenny Gamble's community and education management company said it intended to reapply for funding from the U.S. Department of Education's Promise Neighborhood program to implement the plan.

Universal received a $500,000 planning grant from the U.S. Department of Education in 2010, but its project has not been awarded an implementation grant. - Martha Woodall
