The Philadelphia region's top corporate donors were recognized at the Philadelphia Business Journal's 2011 Corporate Philanthropy Summit on April 28. The event included a keynote address by local philanthropist H.F. "Gerry” Lenfest, founder of the Lenfest Foundation who spoke about his personal passion for and philosophy of giving.
The awards ceremony showcased the contributions of regional companies in the categories of: Cash Gifts, In-Kind Donations, Volunteerism, and Community impact, a capstone award recognizing companies that were generous in all three areas of giving. DVG members among this year's top winners were: Independence Blue Cross, Comcast Corp., PECO, Lincoln Financial Group, Cozen O'Connor, and Cephalon.
The awards are given based on the PBJ's survey of local companies which is conducted during the winter. Approximately 75 companies complete the survey each year. In selecting the region’s top local corporate donors, survey respondents are ranked according to local contributions, divided by the number of their local employees. For fairness in comparing companies of different sizes, donors are sorted by size categories (small, medium, large and extra-large) and ranked their donations on a per employee basis.
