Expanding Support For Immigrant Communities Across Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA PA (7/9/2018) – The  Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (PICC) and The Philadelphia Foundation have announced $321,600 in grants to 20 groups serving 13 Pennsylvania counties through PA is Ready!, a diverse statewide coalition of immigrant-serving organizations.

The grants fund nonprofits providing expanded access to information, leadership development and legal assistance for immigrants and refugees, including those facing deportation.

Announced were:

  • $150,000 in Community Safety Grants to educate community members about immigrant rights, support immigrant neighbors and build immigrant leadership and organizing strength. Recipients and their service areas are:
     
    • Asian Americans United (AAU), Philadelphia County
    • Casa San Jose, Pittsburgh and surrounding counties
    • Church World Service-Lancaster, Lancaster, PA
    • Comite de Apoyo a los Trabajadores Agricolas (CATA), Chester County
    • Movement of Immigrant Leaders of Pennsylvania (MILPA), Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin and York Counties
    • VietLead, Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery Counties
       
  • $53,972 in Strategic Legal Partner Grants to identify and support public campaigns centered on individual immigration cases. Community Safety Grant Recipients will work with:
     
    • Free Migration Project
    • Justice At Work (Formerly Friends of Farmworkers, Inc.)
    • HIAS Pennsylvania
    • Nationalities Service Center
    • Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center 
       
  • $117,688 in Collaborative Project Grants to organizations working together to increase access to legal information and services. Recipients are:
     
    • Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh and Jewish Family & Community Services, Allegheny County
    • Ceiba and Esperanza Immigration Legal Services, Philadelphia County
    • Coalition of African and Caribbean Communities (AFRICOM) and Nationalities Service Center, Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Chester Counties
    • Immigrant Rights Action Group of Doylestown and HIAS PA, Bucks, Montgomery Counties
    • International Service Center and Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center, Dauphin and York Counties
    • Juntos and Nationalities Service Center, Philadelphia County
    • Project Libertad and HIAS PA, Chester and Montgomery Counties

Now in its third year, PA is Ready! is coordinated by the Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition. The Philadelphia Foundation hosts the pooled fund and provides technical assistance, fundraising support and coordination around donor education. To date, it has awarded $801,659.

PA is Ready! is made possible through the support of local and national donors including  Alfred and Mary Douty Foundation, Claneil Foundation, JPB Foundation, Lancaster County Community Foundation, Patricia Kind Family Foundation, the S. Albert Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation, Samuel S. Fels Fund, The Philadelphia Foundation, the Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations.
